Here is one of the very first pieces I learned, way back in the early 60's. These chords, in this sequence, still have the same kind of scary sounding vibe to them to my ear as they did way back then. I love the way they go together. The one stand out chord is the D, I think because it doesn't really belong in the key of Am, which this is. Normally, you'd find a Dm in this key, but this one is major. It really lifts the tune. The other chords are more standard for this key. (minor keys have more related chord possibilities that major keys, because there are 3 different minor scales, all yielding different sets of related chords).
The chord progression is:
Am - C - D - F
Am - C - E - E7
Am - C - D - F
